01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Located along the Daiei-dori shopping street in Uzumasa, Saikan Wong draws a steady stream of diners for its hearty Cantonese and Hong Kong-style fare and its famous "taberu rayu"—a crunchy, savory chili oil. Packed with fragrant ingredients and umami, the house-made chili oil is served as an accompaniment in the dining room and sold as a take-home condiment, with a continuous run of customers picking up jars on their way out.
Among the noodle offerings, the house sesame dan dan noodles stand out. A gentle cloud of toasted sesame aroma rises the moment the bowl arrives, its mellow, full-bodied soup clinging eagerly to supple noodles. A generous mound of seasoned minced pork melts into the broth, lending depth without overwhelming heat. Drizzling a spoonful of the tabletop chili oil halfway through adds a punchy, crisp dimension, shifting the dish into a bolder, sharper register.
Another highlight is the house-special Hong Kong-style congee, which can be selected alongside plain steamed rice in the set meals. Simmered until gently soothing, the rice porridge gains a satisfying textural crunch and roasty fragrance when spooned with the chili oil, playing against the mild natural sweetness of the rice. Weekly lunch sets offer a balanced meal centered on main dishes such as mapo tofu or chinjao rosu (stir-fried beef and peppers), rounded out with soup, dim sum, and a lightly sweet oolong tea jelly.
From Casual Dim Sum to Evening Tasting Courses
The à la carte selection features handmade dim sum ordered from 1 pieces, including broth-filled xiaolongbao, Hong Kong wontons, and pan-fried lo bak go (radish cake). Come evening, guests can settle into full course menus that progress through appetizers, soup, chef's choice mains, dim sum, and dessert. Whether sipping a Tsingtao beer over crisp spring rolls and boiled dumplings or lingering over dinner after a casual daytime noodle stop, the restaurant adapts effortlessly to any occasion.
